Mr. Wethangk Phuangsap, spokesperson for the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE), stated that the ministry recognizes the severe impact of online scams and fake news,
which pose significant threats and have caused widespread harm to the public. Therefore, providing public education and timely alerts is a crucial measure that must be implemented systematically and comprehensively.

The Ministry, in collaboration with DGA, has integrated data to support digital literacy, raise awareness about online scams, and issue fake news alerts to the public via “Thang Rath” app. This initiative aims to prevent citizens from falling victim to online fraud by cybercriminals and to develop their quality of life by providing easier access to digital knowledge, as well as related news and services.

The “Thang Rath” app is a platform that consolidates various government services, making it easier for the public to access. It is therefore well-suited to provide accurate government information, fake news alerts, and warnings about cybercrimes by integrating data between the DE Ministry and DGA. The app offers the following services:

  1. Digital literacy resources, helping citizens apply digital knowledge in their daily lives and prepare to become digital citizens.
  2. Fact-based information about fake news, online fraud alerts, and fake news notifications, keeping the public informed.
  3. Support related agencies by integrating the Cyber Community Thailand data management system, allowing services to be accessed via the “Thang Rath” app with appropriate security measures for public access and data linkage across agencies.

This is one of the key channels that can effectively reach citizens nationwide.”

Mrs. Airada Luangvilai stated that the ongoing rise in online scams and the spread of fake news by cybercriminals underscores the importance of this MOU. It marks a significant step toward proactively protecting the public from digital threats by providing education and timely alerts via the “Thang Rath” app.

She added that the app has already been downloaded over 41 million times, reinforcing its role as a reliable and effective communication channel for the government. Moreover, the app enables real-time outreach to people of all genders, ages, and locations, at any time. Most importantly, because it is a direct channel from the government, users can trust that the information received is factual and credible.

Currently, the Thang Rat application offers over 179 government services, including various public complaint and reporting channels such as The Government’s Public Complaint Center 1111, Reporting complaints or tips to the Damrongdhama Center, Ministry of Interior 1567, Reporting special cases to the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) 1202, and Reporting and requesting to freeze suspicious bank accounts, etc. In addition, the app is now in the process of expanding its capabilities to include reporting drug-related tips and reporting electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) violations, further strengthening public engagement and government responsiveness through a single, trusted digital platform.

This collaboration is not only about equipping the public with the knowledge to protect themselves against online scams and threats from social media—it also demonstrates the collective capability and readiness of government agencies to collaborate in combating
fake news and online fraud. Furthermore, this also aligns with the government’s strong commitment to addressing the ongoing issue of cybercrime and reflects an effort to build a safer digital environment for all citizens.
