DGA organized the prestigious “DG Awards 2024” to honor government agencies that are ready for digital government development.

The Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization), or DGA, organized the annual Digital Government Awards 2024 (DG Awards 2024) on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Santiphak Building, Government House. The event aims to promote role models in digital government development and encourage government agencies to recognize the importance and benefits of transitioning toward digital government.

Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, the chairperson of the Digital Government Awards 2024, expressed his appreciation for the 47 government agencies that received the Digital Government Awards 2024. Mr. Prasert also outlined the direction for driving the country’s digital government transformation, stating: “The main goal of the government is to improve online public services to make interactions with the government easier. This includes access to important information, public welfare services, and various license applications while ensuring that all procedures are seamless, transparent, and convenient for users anywhere. The government will reform the civil service to elevate efficiency and transition Thai governance into a modern digital system in four areas: 1) Promoting the application of technology while enhancing the efficiency of public sector personnel; 2) Ensuring transparency, accountability, and promoting the disclosure of government data; 3) Focusing on public participation; and 4) Decentralizing power to local governments and communities. Mr. Prasert expressed confidence that pushing Thailand toward becoming a digital government will prepare the country to face future challenges in the economy, society, and the environment.”

Mrs. Airada Luangvilai, DGA Senior Executive Vice President and Acting President & CEO, further stated, “DGA is committed to developing digital government concretely. The successes this year reflect the collaborative efforts of all sectors, resulting in an improvement in Thailand’s e-government index, as surveyed by the UN for 2024. Thailand’s ranking has improved by 3 positions, now standing at 52nd out of 193 countries, and is ranked 2nd in ASEAN. Additionally, in the Waseda-IAC World Digital Government Ranking for 2024, Thailand improved by one position, now ranked 18th out of 66 countries. This demonstrates the efforts of all agencies working together to drive digital government development to its fullest capabilities.”
The report on the readiness of digital government reveals that government agencies have made significant progress in digital government readiness. It also includes four policy recommendations:
- Accelerate the management of data according to the framework of government data governance and promote data exchange through the central government platform.
- Develop the digital skills of public sector personnel, especially in the digital domain, and adjust criteria to attract digital experts to engage with government agencies.
- Focus on improving and developing public services in digital formats and promote public participation through online channels.
- Government agencies should prioritize the use of AI technology according to good governance principles and develop digital projects based on appropriate priorities, focusing on meeting indicators that align with the agency’s policies and missions.
