DGA opens new challenges in discussions on the ‘Korea-Thailand Digital Government,’ arranging to develop digital governance and elevate the EGDI index to the top 40 as targeted.

The Digital Government Development Agency (Public Organization) or DGA participated in the ‘Korea-Thailand Digital Government Cooperation Conference,’ organized by the Ministry of Interior and Safety (MOIS) of the Republic of Korea on June 14, 2024, at the Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit. Representing DGA in the morning session was Mr. Charin Thiratitayangkul​, Vice President of Digital Government Strategy Department of DGA. He welcomed the delegation from South Korea, led by: Mr. Ko, Ki-dong, Vice Minister, Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), Mr. Jeong, Jae-yoon, Presidential Committee on the Digital Platform Government (DPG), Mr. Lee, Hyo-chang, Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute (KLID), and  Mr. Yoo Joung-won, Director, National Information Society Agency (NIA). In the afternoon session, an additional meeting was held at the DGA office to share the latest developments and experiences of both countries in digital government development. The discussions also covered the Digital Government Cooperation Center Project Overview from Korea. The session aimed to encourage collaboration between relevant organizations from both countries in order to ensure effective cooperation. This initiative seeks to create new challenges to truly transform public sector operations towards digital government

In this meeting, Mr. Ko, Ki-dong presented the Digital Government Cooperation Center Project Overview and provided examples of case studies of digital government development in Korea, including digital platform government, Digital ID verification, electronic import and export and data integration, and local data integration (Introduction of Korea’s digital government cases #Digital platform government / Digital ID/E-Customs / Local Informatization). Furthermore,  he also expressed his appreciation for this collaboration, which not only provided an opportunity to discuss networking and cooperation among relevant organizations but also marked the first time that Korea and Thailand have closely exchanged knowledge and shared successful experiences. Through this partnership, government services will be transformed to better serve citizens with increased convenience.

Mr. Charin Thiratitayangkul stated that Thailand has made significant progress in implementing the Digital Government Development Plan 2023-2027. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for citizens by leveraging new technologies to develop public services, ensuring they effectively meet the needs of people in the digital era. He also acknowledged that Korea’s advancements in digital government have served as a key model for Thailand’s development in this field. From past experiences, Thailand recognizes that achieving a fully digital government is a complex journey that requires extensive collaboration with successful countries. This discussion focused on key aspects of digital government development, including digital government platforms, digital identity (Digital ID), and other critical issues. Moreover, DGA considers this meeting as an opportunity to develop mutual understanding and lay the groundwork for future collaborative projects. Lastly, Thailand also aims to apply the insights gained from these exchanges to accelerate progress toward its goal of ranking within the top 40 of the E-Government Development Index (EGDI).
